Overview:

Al-Montazah is a diverse complex consisting of a palace, a museum, and extensive gardens. The complex is located in the Al-Montazah neighborhood in Alexandria Governorate in Egypt. The palace is considered one of the most famous royal palaces in Egypt. Built by Khedive Abbas Hilmi II in 1892 AD. Alexandria city. The palace is located within a group of gardens known as "Montazah Gardens".

The park gardens are characterized by diversity, as they contain old trees and rare flower beds, and the groups of plants and flowers scattered in the gardens are taken care of.

The 3,000-meter-wide Montazah Garden contains a large collection of trees and plants, some of which are very rare. Some tropical plants are still well preserved, even though they were planted 100 years ago. The park's collection of plants includes: Catania, Zamia, Carlota and other unique types of palm trees. Even in the garden there are small plants such as anthur, aralicia, Victoria and Rubilia

Al-Muntazah Royal Gardens are a group of walled gardens that occupy an area of ​​approximately 370 acres in Al-Muntazah neighborhood, east of Alexandria, Egypt.

These gardens were established more than a hundred years ago, when Khedive Abbas Hilmi II ordered to build them and the Khedive chose an area that was deserted and isolated at that time.

Several tourist facilities have been established within the park gardens, which were established after the Egyptian revolution to serve public garden lovers, these facilities include:

  • Restaurants
  • An integrated tourist center
  • Playgrounds and chalets
  • Beaches.


The park gardens overlook five beaches, Aida, Venice, Cleopatra and Semiramis, in addition to a private beach belonging to the Helnan Palestine Hotel, which includes a center for water sports and diving.

Salamlek Palace

Khedive Abbas Hilmi II (the last of the Khedive of the Muhammad Ali family) built the Salamlek Palace in 1892. Khedive Abbas’s goal of construction was to use it as a residence for himself and his companions and for practicing the sport of hunting.

Haramlek Palace

In 1932, King Fouad I added another palace to the group, which is the Haramlek Palace, and he also added huge royal gardens and annexed them to the grounds of the Montazah Palace. King Fuad’s goal of construction was to use the palace as his summer residence. It is a mixture of Ottoman and Florentine styles, with two towers. One of these towers rises noticeably with elaborate Italian Renaissance design details. The palace has long open arcades that overlook the sea along each floor.

Due to its importance, the second president of Egypt, Anwar Sadat, renewed the old Salamlek Palace as his official residence. Later, it was frequently used by his successor, President Hosni Mubarak.

It opened as a landscape park and forest reserve.

Haramlek Palace
It has been converted into a public museum for the history and holdings of the Al Muhammad Ali family and artifacts.

Salamlek Palace
It has been converted into a luxury hotel (Salamlek Palace) in additional to a casino.
