The Colored Valley is a valley located in the southeast of the Sinai Peninsula, on the plateau of wandering in the Sinai Mountains, northwest of Nuweiba, South Sinai Governorate, Egypt.
The colored valley is located north of the road from Nuweiba to the Monastery of Saint Catherine. From the asphalt road to the valley by about 15 kilometers.
The valley consists of multi-colored sandstone cliffs (from white to bright red) interspersed with granite, cobalt, copper and ancient coral reefs; all these components give the name to the valley.
The color of the rocks in some places is very bright with a metallic sheen; Elsewhere, the color of the stone is very soft and delicate. The sandstones that make up the valley are painted in different colors - red, pink, yellow, gray, purple and white.
The canyon is a naturally occurring giant gap (most likely the result of an earthquake) in sandy cliffs, and is a well-preserved ancient sea bed. For centuries, water and wind carvings have been low in red sandstone. During the rains - it rains on average 4 times a year in this region - the valley - which usually dries up during the year - is flooded with water. Then the water flows into the valley (dry river). After heavy rains in 2002, some rocks in the gorge have shifted and become unstable, therefore, for the safety of tourists, evidence is required.
The Colorful Canyon is 5 kilometers long, 25-30 meters high, and 2-10 meters wide.
At the beginning of the colored valley it is still wide, its bottom covered with fine light sand. Moreover, in some places the corridor is so narrow that it is barely sufficient for one person. The stone of the walls gradually becomes different.
Erosion has worked on layers of stone with different colors, shapes and thicknesses for thousands of years and now the canyon walls are covered with stunning patterns formed naturally. Sometimes some guides pour water on some rocks and the patterns get very bright, but in rare rainy periods tourists are not escorted into the valley for safety reasons.
In some places, you may encounter some difficulties during the descent, but many tourists have passed through the Colored Canyon peacefully at the end of the canyon, under the shade of the rocks, several plants hiding from the sun. Tourists expected by jeeps, which they reached in the valley, and souvenir sellers.
The valley is full of beautiful landscapes that you will not find much like them. You can take many memorial photos, but the trip will be arduous for some people.
