Overview:

Abu Jallum Reserve (arabic. محمية أبو جالوم, or abu Gallum Reserve or Abu Galum Protected Area) - a reserve on the Red Sea coast in the Gulf of Aqaba in the south-eastern part of the Sinai Peninsula in the South Sinai Governorate . It was established in 1992.It is located in the South Sinai Governorate in Egypt, overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba on the road between Sharm El Sheikh and Taba in an area called Wadi Al-Rasasa  It stretches around the Ras Abu Jallum Cape. The southern border of the reserve lies approx. 6 km north of the town of Dahab, the western border is road No.35 Sharm el-Sheikh - Taba together with Wadi al-Jaib, from the north the border is marked by the peak of Jabal Sukhn (925 m above sea level), and the eastern border is already in the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba. .The 25-kilometer stretch of the reserve has several beaches and dive sites - with pristine coral reefs with a huge variety of corals and fish.

it is a multi-purpose nature reserve. it was declared as a reserve according to Prime Minister Decision in 1992 . It is characterized by a special topography in which the mountains approach beaches Also, the reserve is known for having an underwater cavernous system that extends to depths of more than 100 meters, but it is not stable.

General Description


The area of ​​Abu Gallum is bounded to the north by the line connecting the intersection of Sharm El-Sheikh-Taba with the Rasasah Valley. At a depth of 3 - 5 km from the coral reef line to the east, and to the valley of the Murrah hill on Mount Al Jamra. Until its meeting with Sharm El-Sheikh - Taba road in the south. It is bordered to the west by Sharm El-Sheikh-Taba road. The area of ​​the reserve is about 500 km2 (350 km² on land plus 150 km2 in the water area).
Area: 458 km² (including land: 337 km², marine: 121 km²)
 

Diversity of ecosystems


The reserve contains diverse ecosystems of coral reefs, marine creatures, marine weeds, lagoons, and desert and mountain ecosystems.

Mountains and valleys are replete with animals, birds, and wild plants. The protected area includes about 165 species of plants, of which 44 species are found only in this region, which makes them a great tourist attraction.
